First Snow

It snowed at our place all weekend. This is the earliest snowfall I can remember since we've lived at the pass. We took Kye out in the snow to see what he thought of it.

This morning, I left the house with Kye for a walk around the neighborhood. I was looking forward to getting out in the first snow. As we passed the ski hill, Kye insisted that we walk up it. "Just a little ways up. I want to see the view" he said. [He's quite advanced with his language skills. :)]

I went a little way up but then couldn't see why I should turn around and not go to the top. Soon, we were at the top of Hyak ski hill, enjoying a view of the mountains through the parting clouds.

Only 2.5 months old, and already a snow enthusiast!

Dry Days

It's been a record-breaking summer & fall here in the Seattle area but it finally rained today, after 83 dry days. Kye and I got out hiking a couple times in the past week when B was at work (sorry daddy), enjoying the fall colors in the brilliant sunshine.

Snow Lake at dusk

Hiking Snow Lake with Kye was a pretty cool experience. He slept most of the way. When he awoke, he was thrilled to stare at the trees and feel the cool breeze. It was getting cold and dark by the time we reached the top, so I nursed Kye quickly while looking at the view and then we hit the trail. I didn't know you could nurse and hike at the same time, but it can be done! :)

Fall is Here

It was sunny but cold when we hit the trail one afternoon last week to go climbing. We didn't realize that the sun wasn't going to hit the crag at all and the temps had dropped significantly (from the 70s to the 50s) since the previous day.

Leland and Laurie Jae, holding baby Kye

Anyway, we managed to find enough jackets and random pieces of clothing to keep baby warm, and he was content to sleep in Laurie Jae's arms. Seriously, we have great friends. Laurie Jae held him the entire time, while Brandon and I climbed with Leland and Joanne.

Joanne leading a slab 5.9 that weirds me out every time...
slimy and run-out, but fun anyway.

Leland camouflaged against the rock,
finishing up a short 5.10b.

Brandon on a 5.10a.

Life is slower with baby (and yet somehow immeasurably faster), but we are still managing to do the things we love. I am learning that I can either nurse and soothe a screaming baby at home or out in the woods or mountains. Sort of a no-brainer, for me at least.

Fall Picnic

Felt like getting off the pass for a change of scenery, ended up getting gyros to go, and hanging out picnicking at the Ballard Locks.
